General Eye Care

General and routine eye care is an important part of ensuring the health and well-being of your vision and eyes. At Pinnacle Eye Center, our eye doctors are dedicated to making sure that you are able to experience clear vision for years to come.

Why Are Routine Eye Exams Important?

During a routine eye exam, your eye doctor at Pinnacle Eye Center will perform a thorough examination of your eyes. During this examination, they will look for signs of various eye conditions.

Routine eye care is essential for the early detection of many eye conditions. Early detection of eye conditions can help prevent possible vision loss and other damage to the eye.

Regular eye exams are also essential to ensure that you are experiencing the clearest possible vision. At each eye exam, your eye doctor will test your vision and update your glasses prescription if needed.

Depending on factors like your eye health and age, your eye doctor will recommend how often you should come in for eye exams. Many people under forty with healthy eyes may only need to come in for an eye exam once a year. However, your eye doctor may want to see you more

What Happens During a Routine Eye Exam?

When you arrive for your routine eye exam, your eye doctor or eye care professional will take a detailed history. They will likely ask you about any previous eye conditions, any medications you are on, any family history of eye conditions, and any previous eye surgeries.

They will also ask you about your current vision and if you have noticed any changes in your vision or your eyes. Next, they will test your vision.

They may also test other necessary eye functions like eye movement, pupil reaction, and peripheral vision. Depending on your vision, your eye doctor may perform a refraction test to determine a glasses prescription.

During a refraction test, your eye doctor will have you look at a few letters on a screen and show you two different lenses. Then, they will ask you which lens appears more clear to you.

This process will repeat until your eye doctor has determined the lens prescription that will best correct your vision.

Another essential part of the eye exam is eye pressure testing. Eye pressure levels that are elevated can indicate eye conditions like ocular hypertension or glaucoma. Your eye doctor will want to ensure your eye pressure is within the normal range.

Next, they will give you dilation drops. Dilation drops increase the size of your pupil, which is necessary for your eye doctor to view other vital structures of the eye like the optic nerve, retina, and lens. Once the dilation drops have taken effect, your eye doctor will use a special microscope called a slit lamp to look closely at your eyes and ensure they are healthy.

General Eye Care

At Pinnacle Eye Center, our specialists are trained to detect various eye conditions and have extensive experience treating them. They are well versed in treating dry eye, cataracts, and glaucoma, among other eye conditions.

Our eye doctors utilize some of the most advanced technology available to aid them in the diagnosis and treatment of various eye conditions. This technology includes Autorefraction, Corneal Topography, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Fundus Photography, Cirrus SD-OCT, and OCT Angiography.

OCT stands for optical coherence tomography. This technology can give your eye doctor a unique and detailed view of the retina and optic nerve, which can support them in detecting certain eye conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, glaucoma, and epiretinal membrane. OCT Angiography can also allow the doctor to see how blood flows in the retina and if certain diseases are affecting this blood flow.

dry eye syndrome

At Pinnacle Eye Center, our eye doctors also specialize in treating dry eye syndrome. Dry eye syndrome can cause a variety of symptoms that often require professional treatment to manage your symptoms.

Our eye doctors offer in-office treatment options for dry eye, such as the BlephEx procedure and punctal plug insertion. They may also recommend other at-home treatments, including medicated dry eye therapy, eyelid scrubs, warm compresses, and increased use of artificial tears.
